Planetsky and Real Image join forces to improve high-speed internet in Sub-Saharan Africa

Swaziland, 16 September 2009 - Real Image Ltd, a pioneer in the provision of Internet Services and customized communications solutions in Swaziland, has signed a contract with leading provider of satellite communications Planetsky Ltd, in order to make the next generation of broadband services available to Sub-Saharan Africa.

The strategic alliance is a move forward for Real Image, who introduced high-speed internet in Swaziland in 1999, as the solution that Planetsky has engineered for Real image will be a first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa. Under the contract, Planetsky will provide Real Image with a complete turn-key, self managed, platform for the provision of one-way satellite broadband DVB-IP service to Real Image’s customers. End users of the service will subsequently notice increased performance and higher download speed.

Shane V. Hawkins, GM & COO  at Planetsky states: “Using Planetsky’s VelocitySAT™ platform, Real Image will have full control over the services offered to their customers. Using an on-line interface, Real Image has the ability to provision capacity and manage bandwidth as they please. The solution is scalable in capacity and features, therefore, allowing Real Image to expand their services as needed and when required. The strategic alliance with Real Image will foster growth of broadband services throughout the region and we are excited to be associated with a market leader like Real Image.”

Ali Resting, MD at Real Image: “We are very excited to form a strategic alliance with Planetsky. The alliance with Planetsky to provide New Generation Broadband has been an exciting development for our company and the services provided will enable us to reach a wider client base while servicing remote areas where fixed line broadband is currently unavailable. What is more exciting for us is the fact that we can now tailor different packages with different line speeds which previously we were unable to do.  This means the client will have a choice of speeds to choose from depending on their needs.”

The launch of the Real Image service via the Planetsky VelocitySAT™ platform and a discussion on the future of high-speed communications took place on the 16th of September 2009 in Swaziland. Guest speaker and presenters on the day included Mr. Shane Hawkins GM & COO (Planetsky), Mr. Ali Resting MD (Real Image Internet) and Mr. Tebogo Mogapi CEO (MTN Swaziland).
